BASIC LR for Nurses_ COVID 19 (Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care in Low Resource Settings) is an e-learning course designed for nurses managing critical ill patients or COVID-19 patients in MSF settings.

Learning objectives

The main learning outcome of this course is for course participants to safely and correctly manage a patient with COVID-19. 

At the end of this course participants will be able to recognise and manage critically ill patients in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This course will cover the ABCDE approach, the use of PPE, and the specificity of care in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

List of contents

This course will take you through specificities of COVID-19 patients, namely:

  1. COVID-19 and Infection Prevention Control (IPC)
  2. Pre-screening and ABCDE introduction
  3. Airway management 
  4. Breathing management (include classification COVID-19 patient)
  5. Circulation 
  6. Disability
  7. Exposure (including palliative care and prevention bedrest complications)

Methodology

This course employs a blended approach combining interactive quizzes, multimedia eLearning activities, and comprehensive resources to enhance learning. Additionally, monitored forums and surveys facilitate engagement and feedback throughout the course.

Evaluation

Learners are required to complete multimedia eLearning activities and provide feedback for each module, as well as successfully complete both the pre-course quiz and the post-course assessment to demonstrate their understanding and progress.

Certification 

This e-learning course has been designed by the BASIC Collaboration (Chinese University of Hong-Kong) and MSF. We provide participation certification & APP access upon full completion of the course.

Requirements/Prerequisites

To take this course, learners must be paramedical & medical staff.
