About the course

BASIC LR for COVID-19 Nurses (Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care in Low Resource Settings) is an e-learning course designed for nurses managing critical ill patients or COVID-19 patients in MSF settings.


Learning objectives

The main learning outcome of this course is for course participants to safely and correctly manage a patient with COVID-19. 

At the end of this course participants will be able to recognise and manage critically ill patients in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This course will cover the ABCDE approach, the use of PPE, and the specificity of care in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.


List of contents

This course will take you through specificities of COVID-19 patients, namely:

  1. COVID-19 and Infection Prevention Control (IPC)
  2. Pre-screening and ABCDE introduction
  3. Airway management 
  4. Breathing management (inclued classification COVID-19 patient)
  5. Circulation 
  6. Disability
  7. Exposure (including palliative care and prevention bedrest complications)

This e-learning course has been designed by the BASIC Collaboration (Chinese University of Hong-Kong) and MSF. We provide certification upon completion.
