Community of Practice

What is a Community of Practice?

A Community of Practice (CoP) is a learning space where members learn from each other's experiences and knowledge. As a complement to formal training, a CoP creates space to share with others best practices, past experiences and actual challenges you face in the field. At the same time, you will be able to enrich yourself from others experiences and co-create new solutions and ideas together.

How do I access a Community of Practice?

You can access the Communities of Practice hosted in Tembo by clicking on the “Communities of Practice” on the top menu. In this menu,  click on the button My communities, to see the Communities of Practice you already joined. You will automatically be directed to the CoPs of which you are a member.

If you have not joined a community yet, click on the menu in Find communities and you will see the communities that are available for you to join. Then, follow the instructions to become a member as described below (“How do I become a member of a Community of Practice”)

What can I do as a member of a Community of Practice ?

Once in the Community of Practice, you will be able to:

1.) Connect with other colleagues: you can browse all members’ profiles and contact other members ;

2.) Use the discussions to talk with other members, post questions, share relevant information and contribute to new ideas;

How do I participate to the Community of Practice's Discussions?

In the Discussions area, you can either create a new conversation thread (if you have a question or want to share a particular experience or practice) or reply to others' posts.

How do I become a member of Community of Practice?

If you are eligible to become a member of a Community of Practice, you can join by:

If it is a Community with open access, you click on the “join” button to become a member.

If it is a Community with restricted access, you can click on the “Request to Join” button. You will have to wait for the administrator to validate your enrollment before you can access the CoP. Note that this process may take several hours or days. You will receive a notification by email once the request has been approved.

Be aware that when you join a Community of Practice, you agree to the CoP participation rules. This is important to ensure that all members contribute to safe and constructive exchanges. We advise you to read them upon joining.

I have found an inappropriate content in the Community of Practice , how do I report it?

If you identify a comment or advice which seems inappropriate or risky for the beneficiaries or for MSF staff, you can flag the post. Go to the three-dot menu [···] on the top right corner of the post, and click on the "Report " link. The post wil be flagged as “Reported”, for the facilitators to review.

I am a member of a CoP, but I no longer see it in the Communities' catalogue

The access to some CoP might be restricted by individual MSF sections or Job Families. In case you have changed either one, it might be that you no longer have access to the CoP. You will be able to access it again in the future if you return to your previous MSF section and/or job family. Having said that, we hope that most Communities will accept members from any MSF section in the future.
