OPD Module 4: Diarrhoea, vomiting and dehydration

About the Course

This Module is part of the Outpatient Care programme organised in 9 Modules. 

Diarrhoeal diseases are a leading cause of childhood morbidity and mortality and an important cause of malnutrition.  

In this module you will do activities on how to assess a patient presenting with diarrhoea and/ or vomiting and how to decide on the most appropriate management plan.   

The focus will be on children under 5 years old as they have higher morbidity and mortality, but we will also include some characteristics and special management for adult patients as they often present with this syndrome too.   

The activities will be based on problem solving and guide you to build your own knowledge and skills to be able to produce your own hypothesis and decisions regarding diagnosis and treatment.   

Content

The training units are composed of different participative activities. They are divided as follows:  

  • Unit 1: Making a Panorama 
  • Unit 2: Patient Assessment 
  • Unit 3: Making clinical decisions 
  • Unit 4: Making a patient-centered plan
  • Simulation  
  • Evaluation
