OPD Module 2: Triage, ABCDE, Pain

About the Course

This Module is part of the Outpatient Care programme organised in 9 Modules.

Emergency situations are common but they often surprise us. We must act quickly in order to identify and treat first what kills first.

Acting quickly can save a patient’s life and so in emergencies we don’t use the regular clinic or ward- based approach, i.e. taking a patient history, then examining the patient, making a list of possible diagnoses and then providing treatment.

The ABCDE approach – Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, Exposure - allows us to treat first what kills first. It enables us to be systematic when assessing a critically ill patient, ensuring life threatening issues are identified and treated first.

In this module you will practice the ABCDE assess and resuscitate approach through interactive activities and simulations.
