SAC and Security

About the course

This six part self-paced video series developed by the OCA Public Health Department will introduce and prepare MSF project coordinators, head of missions and other higher-level managers on how to ensure access to safe abortion care (SAC) in MSF projects, while managing risk and security. The video series is based on an in-person training.

Target audience

This course is for Field Coordinators/ Project Coordinators and Heads of Mission navigating risks and security in projects where SAC is provided or plans for implementation are being developed. Medical coordinators may also benefit from taking this course.

Validation

This course has been validated for use by the OCA staff outlined in the 'Target audience' section.

Duration

The total duration of all 6 videos is 94 mins. However, participants are expected to commit approximately 3 hours of their time to read and reflect on accompanying case studies.

Learning objectives

At the end of this course, the participants should understand:

  • Why SAC is a priority for MSF
  • What is MSF’s approach to managing risk and security related to SAC

List of contents

In this course we will review MSF’s general approach to security and risk management.  We will discuss why Safe Abortion Care is a priority for MSF, including: the medical need for SAC, the MSF policies and guidelines that govern its provision.  We will explore ‘What about places where abortion is illegal?’.  Later we will review the steps to SAC risk management and use case studies to see SAC risk management in action.

Methodology

During this course learners will view animated videos and will use case studies to apply and analyse the learning.

Evaluation

Learners must complete a pre- and post-KAS questionnaire, as well as an end-of-course survey, to complete the course.

Certification

After successful completion of this course, participants a digital badge awarded by MSF OCA.

Requirements/prerequisites

To have access to this course, participants must be validated by OCA as a PC/Field Coordinator, HoM or Medco.

Enrolment

This course is accessible via a Keycode. However, as it is limited to Project Coordinators, Field Coordinators, Heads of Mission, and Medical Coordinators, the keycode will only be provided to these profiles.
