About the course
This course is an open course. All modules are activity-based, which means that you have to develop different tasks using diverse materials to finish the module successfully. At the beginning of each module you will be given the time needed to complete the module. We hope this helps you to organise your HMIS learning!
Participants need to do ALL the activities to complete each module. All modules are self-learning, which means that you can do the activities by yourself, without the support of a teacher. However, you will find open communication channels to be used in case you have doubts about doing the activities, also for you to share your thoughts or ideas about the course.
Target audience
This course is addressed to all those interested in knowing about MSF-OCBA HMIS, but especially to medical and non-medical staff working with health data as Medco, Dep Medco, PMR, MAM, NAM, Midwife Activity Manager, Mental Health Activity Manager, Data encoder, Data entry or other profiles working with health data.

Module 1: What is HMIS?
By the end of this module you will be able to:

Module 2: Data Collection
By the end of this module you will be able to:
- Recognise and describe the data collection process in MSF OCBA and its stages
- Identify the limitations and possibilities of this process
- Be familiar with HMIS health data: data elements and indicators
- Use the HMIS Print Tally Sheet App
- Use the Services dossiers
Module 3: HMIS Data entry
By the end of this module you will be able to:
- Use HMIS Data Entry App
- Identify data sets and sections
- Recognise HMIS MSF OCBA hierarchy
- Be able to find the documentation to support the data entry
- Identify which data elements are collected in each health facility and how
Module 4. Data flow
By the end of this module you will be able to:
- Be familiar with MSFE-OCBA data flow
- Use HMIS Project Manager App
Module 5: Data Analysis
By the end of this module you will be able to:
- Use HMIS Data Visualiser App
- Create tables and charts for data analysis
- Identify the main elements for HMIS data analysis: What, when, where,
- Use the data analysis configuration menu
- Configure your own dashboard
Evaluation
If you manage to finish a module successfully you will receive a badge that recognises that you have achieved the goals and acquired the knowledge of the module. Badges are digital credentials that reward your learning achievements. You can earn badges by completing each module and/or by completing different module paths. If you complete all the activities you will obtain the HMIS certificate. Remember that to complete each module, and therefore the course, you need to do ALL the activities.
