About the course
BASIC LR for Doctors – Severe Acute Respiratory infections (Basic Assessment and Support in Intensive Care in Low Resource Settings) is an e-learning course designed for doctors managing critical ill patients with respiratory failure in MSF settings with specificities for COVID 19..
This e-learning is self-paced and covers the patient journey from presentation in the emergency room, initial stabilisation, critical care, referral and end of life care.

Learning objectives
The main learning outcome of this course is for course participants to systematically evaluate and manage a patient with severe respiratory failure and COVID 19.
This course will cover the ABCDE approach in assessment and management of a patient.
At the end of this course participants will be able to identify a critical patient.

- Arrival at the health center
- Triage
- Mild-moderate case: initial assessment and management
- Severe case: Initial clinical assessment and management
- Clinical deterioration during hospital stay
- Assessment and management of acute respiratory failure

Methodology
Self-paced course with modules divided chronologically following a patient journey.
Each section starts with an interactive presentation of theory followed by a case discussion and application of theory learned.
Evaluation
Each section is inbuilt with interactive question.
A post course test with 10 Multiple choice questions is designed at the end of
the module to provide immediate feedback on knowledge retention and
application.
Certification
This e-learning course has been designed by the BASIC Collaboration (Chinese University of Hong-Kong) and MSF. We offer a badge for the completion of the successful completion of the course.
Requirements/Prerequisites
To take this course, learners must be doctors interested in knowing more about critical patients with respiratory failure.
