Training on Clinical Mentoring (eToM)

About the Course

This course is aimed at healthcare professionals in charge of training, supporting or supervising healthcare workers and helping them develop their clinical skills, knowledge and attitudes. The course will guide participants in providing more effective support, from building a trustful relationship to using adequate learning methods and mentoring techniques in a clinical setting. This is an online course with tutor.

Target audience

This training is designed for healthcare workers who will provide 1-1 clinical mentoring within MSF-supported projects.

Training Approach

The total time for the training is 30 hours, divided approximately in

  •  15 hours of virtual sessions (7 virtual sessions)
  •  10 hours of self-paced learning on tembo
  •  5 hours for the assignments.

Learning Objectives

  • Define clinical mentoring
  • Facilitate an initial discussion with their mentee in order to build trust
  • Identify clinical mentoring methods adapted to the clinical setting
  • Organize 1-1 mentorship
  • Facilitate a briefing and a debriefing
  • Give and receive feedback
  • Use mentoring tools to define and contribute to monitoring and evaluation
  • Use a personal development plan in order to grow as a mentor
