Induction First Time Coordinators (OCBA)

About the Course

The aim of this learning resource is to facilitate the induction of first time coordinators, so they are effective in their position as soon as possible.

The induction process has two parts:

  • Resources – They gather the essential knowledge that coordinators should know about the main topics. The purpose is to give some clear and short information avoiding overwhelming people with too much material that can’t be processed in their available time. However, there are also additional resources in case the person has time, or need to get deeper in certain topics (eg. a FC going to a project where there are recurrent epidemics outbreaks, will need to know more on vaccination)

  • Meetings – May happen either face to face or by videoconference. Its purpose is to complement the resources by ensuring participants understand the key points of the topics, and giving the opportunity to solve doubts that may have raised during the study of the resources.

This resource does not substitute the briefings before going on mission, who is going to focus on the project and related specificities of the position.

    Methodology

You need to agree with your pool manager on the topics you are going to study, which depends on your background, experience, etc. Thus every person will go through different topics.

You can access this resource also later once you are in the field, allowing you to refresh the concepts learnt, or get new ones whenever you feel it necessary.

At the end of each topic there is a test that you need to pass, to confirm you have learned the most important things.

The resource is open for anyone, but support and follow up (and certainly the meetings) will be done only to the selected participants.

Who is this course addressed to?

It is addressed to staff who is going to occupy coordination positions in their first mission with MSF. It has been designed for Field Coordinators, but many other positions and profiles can benefit of this resource.
