About this course
MSF FIELD SIMULATION offers different courses in TEMBO to learn about different modalities of simulation and its field application. These courses will allow you to hone your knowledge on how to plan, prepare, facilitate, and evaluate simulation activities with the aim to contributing to the improvement of SAFETY AND QUALITY of MSF's medical humanitarian efforts. We’ve organised them into the four following Learning Spaces within TEMBO, each of one contains different courses:
- Introduction to Simulation for Quality and Safety Care Improvement
- Simulation for Competence Training
- Simulation to Improve Real-World Processes, Plans, and Systems.
- Management of a Simulation Program.
You have two options to learn about simulation:
- Option 1: Create your own personalized learning pathway in simulation.
- Option 2: Follow a certified learning pathway.
This is the Introduction to Simulation for Safety and Quality Care Improvement Learning Space, which includes the following two courses: INTRODUCTION and FACILITATORS SKILLS. The first course will help you understand simulation in the context of MSF, and the second will help you understand the role of a facilitator when applying the methodology. These courses are mandatory to access any of the other 3 Learning Spaces of the Simulation Universe for Safety and Quality Care Improvement and make positive changes in MSF activities..
Duration
Participants are expected to commit 5 hours of their time over 2 weeks. With this time, you can cover the two courses. from this space.
Learning objectives
By the end of the INTRODUCTION course (3hours), participants will be able to:
- Explain simulation concept with its ingredients and characteristics, emphasizing on safe space.
- Identify the role of simulation for quality and safety care improvement in MSF.
- Describe and explain the usefulness of SimZone framework and simulation cycle.
By the end of the FACILITATOR course (2hours), participants will be able to:
- Explain experiential learning phases and skills need to accomplish them.
- Recognize your areas of development related to simulation facilitator competences by building your own facilitator skills map.
List of contents
For the Introduction
- The concept of Simulation
- Benefits and limitations of simulation in MSF.
- Safety and error: implication of mistakes to quality improvement.
- Uses of simulation (types: SOPs, quality, innovation, skills linked to the proper method tabletop, clinical DB, ...).
- The simzone framework.
- PDSA Cycle and simulation cycle to develop simulation programs.
For the Facilitator Skills
- Experiential, peer, and shared learning.
- People: relationship between emotions and learning and relationship between experiences and reflexion.
- Ethics in simulation
- Facilitator mindset versus teacher mindset.
- Group alliances for cooperation
- Group dynamics, techniques to analyze information (D4, PEARLS, ) and questioning with adults: reflective practice, inquiry, and error.
Methodology
E-learning modules with readings, videos, and practical exercises with feedback.
All simulation courses are designed as self-directed learning. So, we recommend participants bring some paper and pen or open a new window to note their thoughts and ideas while taking the course.Evaluation
To obtain the badge for each course, learners must complete and submit all the content, practical activities, and a final short quiz with a minimum of 70% of correct answers.
Certification
Upon completion, including a short quiz at the end, an online theory badge will be awarded for each one of the courses.Requirements/Pre-requisites
An adequate English level is essential (minimum B2).
Access to an internet connection ensures the proper quality of the content; nevertheless, it has been designed to work offline.Enrolment
This space, with its two courses, has self-enrolment access.
