Introduction to HVAC

About the Course

This self-paced course developed by OCB will introduce logisticians to the main concepts related to Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC). It will help logisticians identify the HVAC needs of the MSF activities, understand how HVAC systems work, and reduce their energy consumption


Target audience

Any field logistician working in any way with HVAC systems: LogCos, LTLs, Log supervisors, HVAC technicians.


Duration

This is a self-paced course that will take no more than 2 hours to complete.


Learning objectives

  • Understand the theoretical concepts of relative humidity, condensation, indoor air quality, and thermal comfort
  • Know the differences between the type of HVAC devices used in MSF, where can they be used and their main characteristics
  • First actions to take to reduce the energy consumption of HVAC devices
  • What is indoor air quality and the different solutions

  • Module 1: Introduction 
    • The course starts by explaining what HVAC is and what role it plays in MSF activities. 
  • Module 2: Basic Concepts 
    • This module covers the basic physical concepts such as heat transfer, humidity, thermal comfort, and others, 
  • Module 3: HVAC Equipment 
    • A rundown of the different types of equipment that are frequently used in MSF, what are their characteristics, and their role. 
  • Module 4: Minimizing HVAC Loads 
    • Tips on how to reduce the electrical consumption of the HVAC installation while maintaining the temperature, humidity, and ventilation needed. 


Methodology

Self-paced course. There are mini-quizzes to pass within the different modules and to move on to the next one. There is also a final test. 


Evaluation

Final test at the end of the course that will be automatically evaluated in Tembo.


Certification

After successful completion of this course, participants will receive a certificate and a digital badge awarded by MSF OCB.
