Procurement Essentials (English)

About this course

The Procurement Essentials is a self-paced online introductory training addressed to all newly recruited Procurement profiles from level 6 of the IRFFG and above. The main objective of this course is to equip participants with a comprehensive knowledge about Procurement, to integrate the procurement know-how into MSF context and to get familiar with the organizational structure of the MSF Procurement Unit.  

Target audience

The Procurement Essentials is a compulsory course for all newly recruited procurement profiles (International Mobile Staff & Locally Hired Staff) from level 6 of the IRFFG and above: Procurement Supervisors, Procurement Managers, Intersectional Procurement Managers and Regional Procurement Managers. 

Other Supply profiles may also benefit from taking this course according to the procurement responsibilities they may have in a specific context. They could be invited to follow the course upon recommendation of their line/functional manager, and/or for personal interest. 

Validation

This course is validated for use by OCB supply department (Procurement unit). 

Duration

The training has an expected duration of 3 hours and 30 minutes. Participants are recommended to do it after the Supply Chain Onboarding and before starting their assignment or, at the latest, within the first month.   

Learning objectives

At the end of the Procurement Essentials, participants should be able to: 

  • describe the role and main responsibilities of the different Procurement functions in OCB.
  • define and design a Procurement Strategy for the mission. 
  • implement  and follow up a Procurement Strategy at country level.

List of contents

The self-paced Procurement Essentials is structured in 3 modules: 

    1. Procurement Functions within MSF: structure and design of the OCB Procurement unit, roles & responsibilities of the different procurement functions.
    2. Procurement Strategy Definition: focus on the first 3 steps of the Procurement Process (Spend analysis, Need Analysis, Market analysis and strategy). 
    3. Procurement Strategy Implementation: focus on the last 4 steps of the Procurement Process (Suppliers’ selection process, negotiation and market allocation, contract management, supplier performance management).

Methodology

During this course participants will learn through a combination of multimedia materials and texts, and they will practice what they’ve learned through a series of scenarios and exercises (quizzes, matching and pile sorting activities, etc.). 

Evaluation

To pass this course participants will have to complete all modules. 

Certification

Upon the completion of all modules, participants will receive a certificate, and a digital badge awarded by MSF OCB. 

Requirements/Prerequisites

Prerequisite for newly recruited Procurement profiles from level 6 of the IRFFG and above (primary target group): Supply Chain Onboarding (self-paced) on Tembo. 

For all the other profiles who desire to access the course, it is possible to enroll directly with no prerequisites. Nevertheless, we recommend doing the Supply Chain Onboarding module on Procurement first.

The course will be launched in November 2024. 

Technical considerations

The course is best completed on a computer, laptop or tablet. However, it can also be possible on a mobile device if the screen size is large enough.
