About the course

This is a blended learning course, featuring a self-paced online introduction to the role of a Finance Coordinator, MSF OCA’s financial policies and procedures, and familiarisation with our Finance software and tools, followed by facilitated online training, which expands and develops knowledge and skills in these topics.

Target audience

This course is for Finance Coordinators or Deputy Finance Coordinators preparing for their first assignment.

Duration

2 weeks online blended (40 hours)

Learning objectives

To recognise the functional and strategic role of a Finance Coordinator and to apply the appropriate skills, knowledge and attitudes in order to manage the finance function in your first mission.

List of contents

  • Role of Finance Coordinator: set up and relationship between HQ and the mission finance team, hierarchical and functional management, various roles of a Finance Coordinator, and the relevance of the Finance Functional Strategy for mission operations. 
  • Financial polices & procedure: risk management, OCA and local mission Finance Policies and Procedures, compliance and risk analysis related to local laws and regulations. 
  • Bookkeeping & Reporting: role and responsibilities of Finance and the Finance Coordinator in month-end closing, National Staff payroll activities. 
  • Budgeting & Budget control: OCA Control Cycle, roles and responsibilities in the budgeting process, principles that form the basis of a good budget, analyzing the Budget Control Report (BCR). 
  • Links with other functions Ops, Log, HR:
    • Fundraising Intro: Where the “income” is obtained to run operations, the trends and current challenges of the funding process, and the role of the FinCo.
    • HR: people management and performance management
    • Humanitarian Affairs: how advocacy is practiced in MSF
    • Supply: the procurement process and interactions between
    • Supply and Finance

Methodology

Blended learning approach.  Each day is a combination of self-paced e-Learning and virtual webinars.  There are exercises and reading assignments that the participant is required to complete.

Evaluation

The e-Learning modules will have multiple exercises to measure the level of understanding of the participant. During the online, facilitated sessions, participants’ contributions and interactions will be observed.

Certification

After successful completion, an FCC certificate and a badge are provided to the participant.

Enrolment

This course is open only to: 

  • Candidates who have been validated to be in the (Deputy) Finance Coordinator pool and assigned to their first mission. 
  • National staff in the Deputy Finance Coordinator function in their mission. 

Invitations will be sent to participants identified by the OCA Field Finance.

About the course

This is a blended learning course, featuring a self-paced introduction to the role of a Finance Coordinator, CMT Level Leadership and Management modules, MSF OCA’s financial policies and procedures, and familiarisation with our Finance software and tools. Each module consists of self paced work followed by interactive webinars, and individual reflective action planning which expand and develop knowledge and skills in these topics.

This course is for Finance Coordinators or Deputy Finance Coordinators preparing for their first assignment.   

Duration

80 learning hours total spread over 5 weeks.

This course is open only to: International Mobile Staff and Locally Recruited Staff who have been validated to be in the (Deputy) Finance Coordinator pool and assigned to their first contract in an OCA country Medical Programme.

Invitations will be sent to participants identified by the OCA Field Finance.

About the course

This course aims to introduce field finance staff to the various concepts of finance in OCA country program. This is a blended learning course, featuring e-learning modules, followed by in person training, and then post course assignments to support you putting your learning into practice. This is a course restricted to staff with Finance Management responsibilities, working on a country assignment using UniField. The course has a virtual and face to face format, in English. 

Target audience 

This is a course restricted to staff with Finance Management responsibilities, working on a country assignment using UniField, in one of the following positions: Coordination level: Finance/Accountancy Manager, Assistant FinCo or Assistant FinHRCo; Project level: Fin/HR Manager, Project Finance Manager, Fin/HR Admin, FinAdmin, LogAdmin (some Log All Round) 

Duration 

Participants are expected to commit to 12h for self-guided learning, as part of their preparations, for the face to face 5 days training

Throughout the training, participants will work on a case study in groups with their peers. Pre & Post assessment.

After successful completion of this course, participants will receive a certificate and a digital badge awarded by MSF OCA. 

Requirements/prerequisites 

This is a course restricted to staff with Finance Management responsibilities, working on a country assignment using UniField 

Enrolment 

This is a course upon selection, and restricted to Field Finance Management’s role. The application window is announced via email by the OCA HQ L&D Officers. The recommendation letter for this course needs to be written by the Head of Mission for those in mission, or Career Manager for those in-between missions.

About the course

Welcome to the UniField onboarding course for finance staff, available with content specially selected for three different levels: Cashiers, Managers, and Coordinators.

Target audience

All users of UniField finance modules in OCA (or OCB) field missions. There are three levels of learning, each with different module completion requirements.

Duration

Cashiers: 4 hours
Managers: 7 hours
Coordinators: 9 hours

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to use UniField successfully and confidently in your Finance role with MSF.
