About the Course

The course is divided into 6 chapters of a story in which you will take the role of an MSF staff member going on a mission to a fictitious North African country called “Naktur” that is currently in conflict.  

The story is divided into 2 Acts, “Act 1 The Calm Before the Storm” introduces key concepts in mass casualty planning, while “Act 2 The Big Event” focuses on elements of the mass casualty response. 

During the story you will meet and receive briefings form key characters involved in Mass Casualty Incidents (MCIs).  

At the end of each chapter you will unlock the characters you have met during the chapter. Your goal is to unlock all of the characters. To do this you must pass various challenges presented to you along the way. 

Once you finish the 6 chapters your final challenge will be to pass the post course quiz by 80% or more.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course learners will be able to: 

-Define what a mass casualty incident is. 

-Differentiate between goals under routine conditions and goals in a mass casualty. 

-Distinguish situational awareness, cognitive load, and span of control 

-Describe the hierarchy of activities associated with coordination, care delivery, and the middle management. 

-Outline the concept of risk analysis and its importance in identifying the risk profile of a project.   

-Recognise how stakeholders could impact the success or failure of a mass casualty plan 

-Identify the key elements of Command and control, Safety, Communication and Assessment in CSCATTT 

-Identify the key elements of Triage, treatment, and transfer in CSCATTT. 

-Recognize the important elements of Recovery
