About the course

By the end of the course, you will be able to effectively describe and implement good dispensing practices. This includes preparing the prescribed treatment, handing it out to patients, and communicating effectively on how to take it correctly in order to ensure quality care. 

Target audience

This course is for all MSF dispensers and their managers.

Learning objectives

Upon completion, you will be able to: 

  • Explain good dispensing practices, 
  • Describe the 4 major aspects of good dispensing practices, 
  • Explain the different steps of the dispensing process 
  • Ensure that a prescription meets all basic requirements 
  • Apply the WWHAM approach (Who-What-How-Adverse reactions/Allergies – Monitoring) 
  • Create a treatment dispensing aid with the medical team 
  • Effectively communicate with patients about their treatment by applying the established dialogue framework “WUF model” (Welcome-Understand-Facilitate) with the patient 
  • Outline the responsibilities and boundaries of each medical team member’s role to ensure proper dispensing of treatment and that support is sought when necessary 
  • Explain the 3 mains key elements of an effective team

Methodology

Self -paced/Self-learning which includes engaging with content including reflection and practical exercises, quizzes questions, job aids, learning journal, video. 

Evaluation

To pass this course learners will have to complete all the 3 chapters.

Certification

On completion of all activities, you will be awarded an attendance certificate and a badge.

Technical consideration

The course is best completed on a computer, laptop or tablet on Tembo website. However, it should also be possible on a mobile as long as the screen size is large enough.
