Decentralized models of care. Training package

WHY THIS LEARNING RESOURCE?

The goal of a Decentralized Models of Care (DMC) strategy is to improve access to care by delivering health care outside medical structures. The continuum of care is strengthened by connecting health structures to populations with inadequate access through community-based teams. These teams will most commonly involve Community Health Workers, Traditional Birth Attendants, among others.

For this reason, training packages covering the different DMC areas have been created. These training packages include lesson plans for trainers, videos, case studies, role plays, images, and infographic materials. The infographic material can also be used by community-based health workers beyond the training.

WHICH CONTENTS ARE INCLUDED?

The topics included focus on performing a consultation, gaining good communication skills, and also identifying, diagnosing and treating different diseases or health situations that can be approached at community level by community members. The contents should be slightly adapted according to the healthcare programs and protocols of each country.

WHO IS THIS RESOURCE FOR?

These training resources will be used and facilitated by the supervisors and managers of community-based teams in order to ensure that community-based health workers acquire specific knowledge, skills, and attitudes to deliver health care according to their project’s DMC activities.
