About the Course
Welcome to our blended intersectional training course on Psychiatric Care, based on the Mental Health GAP (mhGAP) approach.
This course is designed for healthcare professionals who work in mental health care and would like to enhance their knowledge and skills in providing evidence-based care to individuals with mental health conditions. It is aimed at preparing medical practitioners to provide psychiatric care in MSF settings using the MHGAP approach.
The course comprises 8 modules, each covering different aspects of mental health care. You will explore topics such as the assessment and diagnosis of mental health conditions, the use of pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy in the treatment of mental health conditions, and the principles of managing emergency mental health situations.
This blended course combines online learning with in-person training to ensure a comprehensive and practical learning experience.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This course is mandatory for any medical professional delivering pharmacological interventions for people with mental health conditions.
DURATION
This online (Self-Paced) part takes approximately 35 hours. The face-to-face part takes about 40 hours (8 hours a day spread across 5 days)
METHODOLOGY
This is a blended (Self-paced online and Face-to-face) course.
This online part is self-paced and independent, so you can organize your own time to be able to complete the course. You will have access to online resources such as interactive modules, activities, case studies, and videos; as well as the opportunity to participate in face-to-face training sessions with experienced mental health professionals.

- Communicate effectively with patients and conduct a comprehensive clinical examination using the mhGAP approach in the context of psychiatric care.
- Manage emergency mental health situations using the mhGAP approach in the context of psychiatric care.
- Accurately diagnose and effectively manage the following conditions using the mhGAP approach in the context of psychiatric care:
- Depression
- Psychosis
- Medically Unexplained Physical Symptoms (MUPS)
- Substance Use Conditions
- Children and teenagers' MH Conditions
