OPD Module 8: Genitourinary problems

About the Course

This Module is part of the OPD program organized in 9 Modules.

In this module we will be working with problems that can affect two different systems: Urinary and genital.

They have different functions and pathologies but are closely related as they are both partially located in the pelvic cavity and share some of their anatomical structures.

For this reason, some of the signs and symptoms may be common to problems in both systems and we will work together to learn how to differentiate between them.

Urinary problems can affect any part of the system and are often caused by bacteria. They can occur in patients of any age and gender and can range from mild to very serious.

Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are the most common adverse consequence of sexual activity and one of the most common causes of ill health in the world. Early diagnosis and treatment of STIs is an important strategy for preventing HIV transmission.
