Performance objective provides structure and clarity of expectation(s) for the individual, the manager, the team and the department. Performance objective provide the connecting structure between the purpose of the job role and the individual's effort, it also form the basis from which and individual contribution will be assessed.

Setting performance objectives, gives specifics about what will be achieved as a result of the work, so that it is glaring to others in the team/department, what you are working towards, and so that one can demonstrate achievement by measuring and reporting progress.

The performance management system is structured by

Evaluate and recognize the strengths or weaknesses of each team member,

determining the need for any specific training.

Plan + Produce giving support where needed;

Control and Check, to be able to achieve the predefined goals in the best possible way.

It is important to set objectives because they are the only indicators that one will rely on to measure his/her performance. If objectives are not planned, you will be working in vague, not knowing the purpose of work and performance indicators.
