It all depends on the competence and motivation of the person working with you. For example, I once recruited an assistant administrator who did not have much experience in humanitarian work but was motivated. In this case, I used the directing and capacity building approach. Recently, I had a consultancy where I was asked to support the Finance Assistant. I used more the coaching approach because the person had the skills but was less motivated, we did the annual calendar of tasks to be done and the training on budget monitoring with my coordinator for the Finance assistant and the project team. We did together the annual closing and the parameterization in the accounting software.
