About the Course

DHIS2 software is a Health Information System (HIS) management tool and is used by all MSF Operational Centres to collect and manage medical data. Each Operational Centre has a different configuration. This eLearning course focuses on OCG’s Health Information System only.

It is only available online and should be followed on a computer (laptop or desktop). 

Target audience

This course is intended for MSF OCG staff working with health data at HQ and in the field: 

• Data team: data operator, data manager and epidemiologist 
• Medical staff working with health data: Medical referents, Ops, Medco, Dep Medco, PMR, MAM, NAM, etc.

The estimated time to complete the course is 5 hours

Learning Objectives

Once you have completed this course, you should be able to:

• Describe what the DHIS2 is 
• Describe the building blocks of DHIS2 (what, where, when) 
• List the main DHIS2 applications 
• Describe MSF-OCG DHIS2 hierarchy and understand data that are available at each level of the hierarchy 
• Describe MSF-OCG data flow 
• Understand how and when data entered are synchronized with the central MSF-OCG DHIS2 server 
• List the different roles assigned to field staff according to the category of staff and the context of the project 
• Describe the data collection process in MSF-OCG 
• Define the 3 types of data collected in DHIS2 (aggregate, individual event, individual tracker) and provide examples
• Identify where to get the tally sheets/data collection forms
• Use MSF-OCG DHIS2 data entry applications
• Identify organisations units, data sets/programs and period in data entry applications
• Use the validation rule
• Use MSF-OCG DHIS2 Data Visualiser App 
• Use MSF-OCG DHIS2 Event Report and Event Visualiser Apps
• Create and save tables and charts for data analysis 
• Share tables and charts with other users 
• Use the HMIS Dictionary App
• Use MSF-OCG DHIS2 Dashboard App
• Use the filter functionality of the Dashboard App
• Create, configure and edit a dashboard
• Share a dashboard with other users
