Case Management of Abusive and Inappropriate Behaviour

About the Course

Case Management of Abusive and Inappropriate Behaviour is an OCB blended course which will address how to manage a complaint on abusive or inappropriate behaviours, with a particular focus on investigation. The course consists of a self-learning part followed by live sessions. In the former, participants will cover theoretical concepts surrounding Responsable Behaviour and abuse in MSF, namely the ethical principles, IPOB Standards of Case Management, reporting mechanisms, and guidelines for receiving a victim. In the live sessions, participants will learn about case management by interviewing the different parties involved, drawing conclusions, and making the final decision. To ensure a realistic setting, all parties will be played by professional actors, specialised in improvisation. 


Target Audience

This course is aimed at HoMs, HRCos, Field Cos, HR Managers, and HR-FIN Managers. 


Duration

This course consists of a total 50 hours : 

  • Pre-course work : 6h. The completion of which is compulsory. The assignments are available as of 5 weeks before the beginning of the course and include : ebriefing to complete, documents to read + quiz to answer, videos to watch + quiz, getting familiar with online tools that will be used during the course); 
  • Onboarding : 4h in 2 sessions of 2h. The first will take place 5 weeks before the start of the live sessions and the second 1 week before.
  • Live sessions : 40 h or 1 week full time. The online course itself over 5 days organized in 1 week; 0900 - 1730 (CEST). 

A full commitment for the complete duration of the course is essential.


Learning Objectives

This practical interactive virtual course will enable you to:  

  • Apply OCB tools, techniques and procedures to manage a case of abusive or inappropriate behaviour
  • Prepare and conduct an investigation in a safe space, including practice leading interviews as well as note taking and observation.
  • Practice drawing conclusions on the basis of information gathered and drafting a case report.
  • Exchange views, solutions and best practices with pairs and experienced case managers.

Methodology

  • Preparatory work to ensure common theoretical basis to all participants, through use of online tools to enhance the experience, i.e. ebriefings, readings, videos, quizzes
  • Simulation with actors specialised in improvisation, debriefings, experience sharing, and learning from peers 
  • Discussions with peers and experienced case managers.

Evaluation

During the online course, participants will interview actors and will receive feedback on their interviewing skills. A debriefing will allow sharing experiences. A report will be issued by each working group. It will be read and commented by the team of facilitators, before an open discussion in plenary. 


Certification

After successful completion of this course, participants will receive a certificate and digital badges awarded by MSF OCB.  


Requirements/Prerequisites

Time availability
  • For the 5 days of training, we strongly recommend that participants are reallocated at a place where they are fully free of duty (this period may be combined with a visit to the coordination team in the capital).  
  • The organisation of back-up for the participant is highly recommended. 
  • Motivation and supervisor approval are required for the entire duration of the course.  
  • Supervisor and participants accept to allocate time before/after the training event for the preparation and the follow-up of the learning activity 
Technical and learning environment
  • Access to stable and reliable internet connection. 
  • We recommend following the training from a different place than one's usual office, ie. if you are in a project, suggestion to travel to coordination. It will be an interactive training where participants will need to be fully involved and not interrupted.  
  • Please, speak with your HRDev to organise this safe learning environment.

  • Carefully read the course information, and organise a meeting with your supervisor/DA to discuss it.  
  • Supervisors must make sure participants are free of duty during the 5 days of the training.
