About the course

The GIS Centre* is an intersectional Unit this course is propose to all MSF Section.

The aim of this training is also to all MSF staff to onboard GIS into their portfolio of skills. It is also to enable Logs to onboard GIS into their portfolio of skills for the MSF technical families they represent. 

Mandatory for all Logistican

Training in English (a French version is also available on Tembo)

Target audience

Primary audience:

  • All MSF staff want to understand and use GIS.
  • Mandatory to all polyvalent Logisticien due to the fact they are responsible for GIS in MSF.

Duration

  • Introduction - 10'
  • Information - Total 2h 30' (Mandotory)
  • GIS Tools - Total 6h (Non mandatory)

Learning objectives

The aim of this self-training is to quickly give you the basics of GIS necessary for any person want to use GIS and Logistician in charge of GIS.
Learning outcomes at the end of the course, you will:

  • Understand the added value of GIS in the field.
  • Understand the role of the GIS-related Log.
  • Become an ambassador for GIS.
  • Be able to use basic GIS tools.
Why are these goals important?
  • GIS technology provides support to MSF operations in the areas of analysis, decision-making, information management and communication.
  • GIS is officially part of the technical areas supported by Logs, who must be able to provide the first line of support.

Methodology

This self-access course is designed for you to work through entirely on your own.

At every step, you are free to explore certain areas in more depth.

Modules Information, data and Ethic are mandatory, specific modules Osmand, Google Earth and MSF Mapper tools are optional.

You will also need to ensure you have access to the GeoMSF Platform at https://geo.msf.org.

To access the platform (via the MSF Staff Log in button), you will need an MSF email address and password.

Certification
Badge available upon completion.
Technical considerations

The course is best completed on a computer with a mouse.

Hyperlinks or links to websites are not available if you have downloaded the course and are completing it offline. You will need to have internet access to view them.

As this course includes some virtual sessions, it is better if you have access to a large screen.
